Even as homeowners continue to choose to side with vinyl, competing product manufacturers perpetuate myths that often lead to restrictions on its use. To counteract these disparagements, we must get the facts about vinyl siding to decision-makers.

We need your help. As employees of the vinyl siding industry, building products distributors, builders, remodelers, community planners, architects, designers, homeowners and concerned citizens, you can become an integral part of our effort. We have established the VSI Vinyl Siding Grassroots Team to assist you in becoming better educated about vinyl siding benefits and its performance.

The Vinyl Siding Institute, Inc. (VSI) and its member companies are proud to give back to the communities we serve. By providing certified vinyl siding and trainers to community building projects, VSI members have created a legacy of quality vinyl siding and proper installation, giving those in need homes with exteriors that last.

Through donations of vinyl siding and VSI Certified Trainers to construction projects for the Fuller Center for Housing and Habitat for Humanity International and their affiliates, the vinyl siding industry helps complete housing projects around the world.

VSI manufacturer members have donated more than $2.5 million in certified vinyl siding, installation training and resources, and countless hours of volunteer time.

America Sides with Veterans

When Corporal Josh Himan and Army Reservist Jay Briseno came home from military service oversees, they needed homes that could accommodate wheelchairs, among other needs from sustained injuries in the War in Afghanistan and the War in Iraq, respectively.

The northern Virginia Fuller Center for Housing teamed up with Azalea Charities, the Quality of Life Foundation and VSI to provide a wheelchair accessible addition to Himan’s home, and construction on a new home for Briseno began in May 2011. Both of these homes were sided with certified vinyl siding provided by Mitten, Inc., a VSI manufacturer member.

VSI Participates in Third Annual Millard Fuller Legacy Build

VSI participated in the third annual Millard Fuller Legacy Build October 17 21 in Minden, La. VSI manufacturer members provided vinyl siding certified through the VSI Product Certification Program and VSI Certified Trainers educated volunteers on proper vinyl siding installation for new homes for deserving families in the Legacy Acres subdivision of Minden.

Eight homes were newly constructed and several rehabilitated in memory of the late Millard Fuller, founder of the Fuller Center for Housing and co-founder of Habitat for Humanity.

“VSI was very excited to help continue Millard’s mission of building quality housing for those in need by participating in this year’s build,” said Jery Y. Huntley, VSI President & CEO, and one of the volunteers. “The VSI Certified Trainers on site showed volunteers proper vinyl siding installation techniques. These techniques will help ensure that the siding lasts and remains beautiful for years to come.”

“It’was an incredible week,” said Charlie Park, who leads the Fuller Center for Housing of Webster Parish and headed up the third annual Legacy Build. For VSI members, it also was the continuation of years of commitment to the Fuller Center for Housing and Habitat for Humanity builds.

Since the Fuller Center for Housing was founded in 2005, VSI members have donated vinyl siding, and training in support of Mr. Fuller’s mission. The vinyl siding certified through the VSI Product Certification Program is independently verified to meet or exceed the industry standard for performance; each Certified Trainer has completed a “train the trainer” course and passed an examination on his/her training skills and knowledge of the proper installation techniques.

“As Millard always said, you can put vinyl siding on a house and drive by 10 years later, and it still looks as good as the day you installed it,” said Linda Fuller Degelmann.

Habitat for Humanity homes require exterior cladding that meets high performance standards and keep costs to a minimum. As the eighth largest homebuilder in the United States, its affiliates count on vinyl siding for its long-lasting attractiveness, as well as to help make home ownership a reality for families in need.

From June 4 8, 2012, as part of Habitat for Humanity’s Home Builders Blitz, local builders and volunteers set out to build 200 homes in an effort to reaffirm the organization’s commitment to create “a world where everyone has a decent place to live.” The Vinyl Siding Institute had a contributing role in this five-day philanthropic event that sought to build, renovate and repair homes across the United States.

Several VSI member companies donated vinyl siding and accessories to builds in Massachusetts, Tennessee, Ohio, and Indiana, giving homeowers beautiful low maintenance exteriors.

Since 1995, the vinyl siding industry has donated more than $2.5 million in vinyl siding and accessories for more than 1,000 Habitat homes, including projects featured during the 2012 Builder Blitz. VSI manufacturer members not only donate to blitz builds and Jimmy Carter Work Projects (JCWP), they also donate to local Habitat affiliates.
