Understanding Color Retention
Vinyl siding is available in a wide range of colors and textures capable
of matching nearly any architectural style. The vinyl
siding industry has achieved this through use of advanced color formulation
methods and constant testing in the most challenging climates. An important part
of this process is the ability to accurately define colors and measure how they
change in response to hostile environments. Color measurement is a sophisticated
science, way beyond the ability of most of us to understand! However, the Vinyl
Siding Institute’s technical experts have put together a “Color Measurement
Primer” that provides a basic review of the methods we use to measure colors.
We are always looking for ways to improve the Color Measurement Primer,
and it helps to know something about who is viewing it and how well it addressed
their needs. Therefore, we ask that you answer the three questions below before
viewing the Primer, and invite you to give us feedback at the end.
