VSI Vinyl Siding Product
Certification Program
Vinyl siding is the only exterior cladding product that provides independent
certification for both the product and its installers!
Since 1998, VSI has sponsored a program to independently verify that vinyl
siding meets or exceeds the ASTM D3679 standard, as well as the ASTM standards
for color retention of vinyl siding. Architectural Testing, Inc. (ATI) of York,
Pa., an accredited inspection and quality control agency (International
Accreditation Service, Inc., accreditation number AA 676), lends the Vinyl
Siding Institute's inspection program the independence necessary to ensure
compliance with the latest editions of the International Building Code and the
International Residential Code by conducting third-party testing and
twice-yearly, unannounced inspections of participating plants.
Products certified through VSI's program must pass tests on weatherability,
windload resistance, impact resistance, camber, heat expansion and surface
distortion, as well conform to the length, width, gloss and thickness
advertised, as verified by the quality control agency. All packaging for vinyl
siding certified through the VSI program is affixed with a label signifying that
the product has been sampled, tested and manufactured in accordance with ASTM
D3679.
In order to achieve color retention certification, a certified vinyl siding
product must also undergo a two-year, outdoor comparative weathering study to
ensure the color will resist major changes over time in all types of weather.

Certified Installer Program
Since 2006, VSI has sponsored a program to independently certify vinyl siding
installers, installation trainers and installer companies. In less than two
years, the program has certified more than 1,800 installers!
VSI's Certified Installer process involves a combination of classroom
training, hands-on instruction, and a written test given by a VSI Certified
Trainer. Candidates must have at least one year of experience installing vinyl
siding, and installers with at least three years of experience can become
certified by passing VSI's test. All VSI Certified Installers must apply for
re-certification after their first two years of certification and every three
years after that, ensuring that they are using the most up-to-date installation
techniques.
