The Vinyl Siding Institute’s (VSI) efforts against unfair and unreasonable aesthetic design bans that prohibit many of our members’ products are in full throttle.
In Indiana, our bill, HB 1114 was recently heard in committee. It passed with a vote of 8-5. Sponsor–Rep. Doug Miller (R-Elkhart, District 48) did an excellent job presenting the facts on this bill and why it will meet a critical need in Indiana.
The next step is a floor vote in the House. Along with the Home Builders of Indiana and “Build Indiana Roots,” VSI will continue to work closely with Indiana representatives to ensure we get a fair shake so that the voices of all Hoosiers are heard.
Tennessee’s legislature returned from recess last week. VSI’s bills SB0631/HB0749 were introduced in both the Senate and the House. We are confident our coalition will make inroads in the next few weeks and remain cautiously optimistic that we can get these bills out of committee soon with an end goal of floor votes within 45 days.
As you may know, much of VSI’s success comes from our members’ willingness to get involved and step up to the plate when help is needed. Thank you!
Please keep an eye out for social media posts and emails with information about opportunities to testify virtually or in-person. If you can’t testify – but you want to get involved – consider providing resources or data about Indiana and Tennessee so that our industry voice is heard.
VSI’s Director of Advocacy, Alex Fernandez (firstname.lastname@example.org), will reach out when the time comes. We will work hard to make 2021 another successful year in this arena, and we hope we can continue to count on your support.
